Opacal is a radiopaque calcium hydroxide paste, creamy and ready to use as a provisional filling for the root canal. When it is necessary to temporally space two appointments for root canal treatment, calcium hydroxide paste is the conventional material that should be used. The product is indicated for eliminating remaining microorganisms and preventing reinfections between both appointments. The main properties of calcium hydroxide paste are due to its alkaline pH. The usual duration of temporary spacing for treatment is between 1 and 3 weeks.
The product has a high pH (above 12). Thanks to its radiopacity (>300% compared to dentin), Opacal is one of the most radiopaque calcium hydroxide pastes, ensuring its easy identification and effective monitoring. Opacal is an aqueous material that does not set. This characteristic induces rapid ion release and effective action in a brief treatment procedure (R.G. Fava & W.P. Saunder, Calcium hydroxide pastes: classification and clinical indications). Additionally, the paste can be easily removed.
Opacal comes in a 3 ml syringe and is supplied with 10 specific applicator tips and a digital holder. The combined use of ready-to-use paste and the applicator tip with Luer connection allows safe and precise application of the paste inside the root canal anatomy. The specific tips are flexible and designed to reach the desired anatomical zone of the root canal. The digital holder supplied with the product allows for more precise control of paste manipulation and delivery with the finger. Additional applicator tips can be requested by providing the specific reference.
